How to Study.

Sounds simple enough right? But how many times have you sat down to start your homework or study and just get distracted. Someone comes on Facebook  something's on TV and before you know it, it's Sunday night and you've gotten nothing done. At all.

Firstly, try to make sure you're interested in the subject. This comes back to subject selection in year 11 and 12 but some things are unavoidable, like english or maths. It becomes a lot more difficult to retain information if you're bored when studying. You can try doing things other than simply answering questions. You could perhaps do a painting or drawing that links to to what you're studying. Put it on your wall so that every time you see it, you remember what you've been looking over. You could substitute the lyrics of one of your favourite songs for study notes. I know it sounds stupid, but seriously, if you can remember lyrics a lot easier than you can remember paragraphs of information. If you like writing, write a creative piece about it, if you make movies, make one about what you're looking at. Do whatever you can to make the subject that little more fun.

One of the ways your brain retains information is visually, chunks of information aren't going to help you when it comes to exams. Try to colour coordinate your notes, make them look all pretty. Include pictures so you can look at them and instantly remember what you need to know. It's much easier to visual memorise pictures than to remember word for word say, the constitution for example. Furthermore, don't remember things word for word, draw diagrams, flow charts, tables or even just simple dot points. If you can remember the main ideas of what you need to know, you should be able to extend on this when it comes to answering questions.
